Leigh Montville - "The big Bam" (Doubleday, 2006): "Babe Ruth was more than baseball's original superstar. For eighty-five years, he has remained the sport's reigning titan. He has been named Athlete of the Century... He was the Sultan of Swat, the caliph of clout, the wizard of whack, the Bambino, and simply to his teammates, the big bam".
Throughout the 1940s, Cranmore Mountain Lodge was owned and operated by Julia-Ruth Stevens and her husband Richard Wells Flanders. During these years, Babe Ruth would frequently visit his daughter and always stayed in Room #2, the "Babe Ruth Room", in the Main Lodge.
All furniture has been maintained and was used by the Babe himself! The room displays pictures of the "Big Bam" and memorabilia.
This bright room is on the second floor of the Main Lodge, away from our family rooms, and features a king size bed, natural maple flooring, cable TV/DVD, alarm clock, in-room phone, private shower bath, in-room sink, large closet, ceiling fan, window A/C and wireless internet access. Views on the front yard and side of the building. Maximum occupancy : 2 adults. Sorry, no children are allowed in this room.
Guests can also sit down for a game of cards in the game room and use Babe Ruth's bridge table from his Madison Avenue apartment in New York City.
