About Cort Hansen, your guide

About Cort Hansen

Beginning with his childhood in the 60's, Cort Hansen has hiked and climbed throughout the entire eastern United States, as well as the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Utah and Northern Arizona.

His outdoor experience includes hiking, backpacking, rock and ice climbing,  mountain biking, and all types of skiing - including cross-country,  backcountry, telemark and alpine touring. His interest in conservation and the environment led him to a two year term as a member of the New Hampshire State Legislature in the House of Representatives, here he was a member of the House Committee on Resources and Economic Development. After moving to the North Country, Cort served in several positions in local town government.

For the last 20 years, he has worked as a volunteer for the Mount  Washington Valley Ski Touring Foundation developing and maintaining a 65km network of ski touring trails in the communities of Bartlett and North Conway. He currently serves as the non-profit foundation's president and chairs the Board of Directors.

Originally trained in forestry and forest recreation, Cort spent eight years working with the U.S. Forest Service in the White Mountain National Forest as a forest ranger, where he performed a variety of technical work in support of the recreation and timber programs of the WMNF. This included trail and facility maintenance, trail construction, backcountry patrol, timber management, firefighting,  search and rescue, and law enforcement. In 1985, Cort joined Ragged Mountain Equipment as a co-owner, and since then has worked in every aspect of company management. Through  his work at RME, Cort stays on top of the latest trends in equipment and clothing for outdoor recreation.

With over 40 years of outdoor experience in New Hampshire's White  Mountains, Cort has an intimate knowledge of the mountain trails and unique folklore of the area. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and is enthusiastic about leading others into some of the most special areas  in the White Mountains.
