Winter definitely arrived in December! Snow was even on the ground for Thanksgiving. For the first time in 25 years, I went back on skis and took a 2 hour lesson on Cranmore (much needed!). I used to ski every year in the French and Swiss Alps, from 3 years old until I was a teenager. Then, I did more cross-country skiing than downhill, got married, had kids… and stop skiing completely. It’s true what they say: it is like riding a bike. You don’t forget! I just did the “magic carpet” on Cranmore as I didn’t want to risk too much the first day. I am now ready for the lift and I’ll go after the Holidays with my 7 year old daughter, Claire!
A week ago, we were hit by an ice storm. The South of New Hampshire was hit harder than us and lots of our guests lost power for several days. We didn’t! The driveway was an ice rink and the snow was packed and hard. Then it warmed up and the little bridge across the brook in our backyard was washed again!
Then, two days ago, good powder snow finally fell, about 18 inches, and Cranmore was able to open all the trails! I think we have more snow this year for Christmas than last year!
This afternoon, the weather is perfect: sunshine, cold and the snow is deep. I just went for a quick snowshoeing hike with Blackie (our Black lab) to start “grooming” the trails that start right from our backyard. What a workout! Even with snowshoes, the snow was up to my knees! I will go back tomorrow to finish the trail! Even Blackie is exhausted after such a hike! I brought back some pictures to share with all of you!
Have a Merry White Wonderful Christmas!
